On the way we will visit Mtskheta, which is religious capital, the spiritual heart and therefore the most important city of Georgia. It used to be the capital city before King Gorgasali changed his base to Tbilisi. It’s also one of the oldest cities in Georgia, where 4000 - year-old traces of human settlements were found. Mtskheta is home to three of Georgia’s most important churches: Svetitskhoveli and Jvari. Saint Nino lived in this city. She’s known as the Enlightener of Georgia, is one of the most important saints in this country (many girls are named after her). She’s the woman who preached Christianity in Georgia and the reason why this Religion was adopted as the state religion in the year 330.
Important Note: if you want to enter the churches, dress appropriately! Men aren’t allowed to wear shorts or hats while women have to wear a long skirts and cover their hair with a scarf.
Overnight in Batumi hotel
Batumi is modern city on the coast of the Black Sea. It’s the second biggest city in Georgia and sometimes, it doesn’t feel like you’re in Georgia. Batumi is right near the border with Turkey. The architecture is a combination of European and Asian styles, often mixed with fairy-tale like towers, statues, and buildings created by some hallucinating architects.
First destination will be Makhuntseti Waterfall.The mountain region of Georgia, Ajara, is known for its beautiful nature and a lot of natural monuments. One of the must-visit attractions is Makhuntseti waterfall which is remote from Batumi to 30 km. This is one of the highest waterfalls in Ajara - a real pride of local residents. The road will take about 30 minutes, on the way to Makhuntseti, you will hear a pleasant noise of the approaching water. And in a few minutes, there will be an incredible sight.
By the way, getting off the place, we will see two pointers, one to the waterfall and the other to the famous stone bridge, built 12th century, during the reign of Queen Tamar. This is another attraction of the area, if you have desire, this is very good place for rafting.
After Makhuntseti, we will visit Batumi Botanical Garden is located 10 km far from city center. Boasting one of the widest varieties of flora in the world, Batumi Botanical Garden was established in 1912 by the prominent botanist and geographer Andrey Ksanov.
Then take a walk and use Batumi cable car. Entertaining center Argo is located on Anuria Mountain, 250 meters high from the sea level. The complex offers spectacular views of Batumi Sea and the surrounding mountains. The center comprises restaurants, cafes, retail shops,and roof terraces as well. After this nice views take a walk across the beach in a famous Batumi Boulvard. Overnight in Batumi hotel.
Kumistavi cave, also known as the cave Prometheus, is located near the Georgia town of Tskhaltubo, 20 km away from Kutaisi Imereti region in the west of the country. It was discovered in 1984, and was almost immediately developed as a show cave. Prometheus cave is the biggest cave in Georgia. Although only one tenth is open for tourists, it takes about an hour to explore it. Inside there are underground lakes and rivers, rather high humidity and a lot of bats, which however do not bother tourists, as they fly very high. Prometheus Cave is one of Georgia’s natural wonders providing visitors with breathtaking views of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers and lakes. All of which are spectacularly highlighted by one of the most amazing feature of the place – an underground light system filled with LED lights. There is a constant comfortable 14 degrees Celsius (57F) temperature inside the cave, which allows tourists to spend as much time as they want inside all year round. It is a unique experience to feel the underworld atmosphere in all its glory and colors. Tourists may choose between walking tours along the 1600 meters’ route, and the boat ride along the underground river.
Kumistavi owes a famous Caucasian myth about Amirani for the sonorous naming of the “Cave of Prometheus”. The legend says that Amirani, like Prometheus, angered the gods and was punished. Days and nights eagle tormented him eating his liver, however, in contrast to the Greek giant, cruel gods chained Amirani not to the rock but somewhere inside a huge cave. Presumably, it is in khumistavi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia. It is one of the best cities in Georgia to visit! Tbilisi lies on the banks of the Mtkhvari River and is surrounded by hills and mountains. It has been the capital of Georgia since the 5th century and its diverse architecture reflects it’s the long and complicated history. One of the best ways to appreciate this unique place is to wander its streets, especially in the colorful Old Town. During your walk in the city you’ll come across over renovated and hyper modern buildings but you’ll also find yourself in a warren of backstreets surrounded by ramshackle buildings that are beautiful in their own unique way.
Tbilisi walking tour starts from Freedom square, it is main square of the capital, walking down to Baratashvili street called as a street of contrast, we will see konka, Gabriadze Theatre and clock tower, Anchiskhati Basilica (VI century), Patriarcate of Georgia , Bridge of peace, Erekle II street (royal street), Chardin street, Maidan square, will take cable car ride to Narikala fortress, (IV century), where you can enjoy the stunning panorama over the city. also see huge statue of Mother of Georgians – Kartlis Deda, walk in narrow old streets and feel the soul of old Tbilisi, see Legvtakhevi small canyon with waterfall, explore brick-domed underground sulfur baths, the district of naturally hot mineral waters (17th century) – Abanothubani. Sulphur baths in Abanothubani, in the midst of the old town in Tbilisi are famed to be the source of the city’s existence.
Breakfast at the hotel. Early in the morning starts very scenic drive up through the High Caucasus Mountains along the Georgian Military Highway towards Kazbeghi region. On the way we will drive across the Cross Pass (2 395.) and along the Tergi River that brings us to Khazbegi – main town in this region. From Kazbeghi a leisurely 4 hours walk through beautiful valleys and woodland that leads us to Gergeti Holy Trinity church (14th century) stunningly located on a hilltop (2170m.) both overlooking the surrounding snowy peaks of the Greater Caucasus Mountains (you will need to hire the 4 4 vehicle to reach Gergeti Trinity Church which you have to pay there). Here we will enjoy unique nature with beautiful panoramic views of Caucasus, including mount Kazbeghi (5047m.). Afterwards drive back to Tbilisi. En route visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th century) overlooking a reservoir on the Aragvi River. In the evening drive back to Tbilisi.
Sighnaghi is one of the most beautiful cities of modern Georgia. It is situated in Khakheti region, famous us with its old wine culture. Sighnaghi otherwise is called “city of love”, as it’s one of the most popular places for bride-couples. It is surrounded by defensive walls and towers. From Sighnaghi there is beautiful view on the Alazani valley, wine-cellar (you can degustate and buy some best Georgian wines there). Within Sighnaghi Tour we also visit the Bodbe Monastery (built in 9th century) of Saint Nino (the saint, who preached Christianity in Georgia), which is 2 km away from Sighnaghi. Here is the grave of Saint Nino and her holy spring – the sites visited by believers from all over the world, where you can also have a bath. It is believed that anyone with strong belief, having bath in this spring, will be cured from all diseases.
